Top tourist attractions in Zurich
One of the richest and most sophisticated cities in the world.
Here are our top tourist attractions:
1 Lake Zurich
Home to various swimming areas and beaches, this lake was formed by glaciers in the Alps and stretches from Zurich to other smaller towns. Cruises and tours around the lake and to some of the villages are available and a must for boat lovers.
2 Opernhaus
Seating around 1200 people, this pillared neoclassical building holds a very important role in the history of opera. In fact, it was home to the world premiere of Chekov’s opera. After going through a number of archeological changes throughout the years, the current style plays homage to icons such as Mozart, Weber and Shakespeare.
3 Grossmünster
The “Great Minister” church is one of the main four churches in Zurich. Founded by Charlemagne, the twin towers are the most recognizable landmark in all of Zurich. Some modern additions include stained glass and a bronze door, but it continues to be home to the crypts of Zurich’s patron saints, Regula and Felix.
4 Fraumünster
Another one of the four main churches, the Fraumünster is also known as the women’s church since it was built by Louis the German for his daughter. Since nowadays the church is open for tours for visitors, it is hard to miss the tall stained glass windows, frescoes and the church clock tower.
5 Zurich Altstadt
Home to many landmarks and popular tourist attractions in Zurich including Lindenhof, Fraumunster and St Peter’s Church amongst others, this historical city from just before the twentieth century, has kept an older architectural feel.
