The Germans do know a thing or two about Christmas markets. These are our favourite 3 which are sure to offer the best experience for Christmas lovers from all around the globe.

Nuremberg

Named one of the Top 100 attractions in Germany in a survey by the German National Tourist Board, the Nuremberg Christmas market transports to a winter wonderland. With numerous stalls selling everything from mulled wine, handmade crafts and trinkets, delicious gingerbread snacks and grilled sausages. Don’t miss out on the Christkind where a blond girl is chosen every two years and, wearing her gold crown and white gown sparkling with strands of gold, opens the Christkindlesmarkt with a prologue from the balcony of the Church of Our Lady.

Berlin

You’ll be spoilt for choice when looking for Christmas markets in Berlin. One will find great-smelling food and drink stalls that entice visitors to spend the evening exploring the various stalls. The Berliner Weinachtszeit is located behind Alexanderplatz and is an excellent place to soak up the Christmas spirit. You’ll enjoy discovering rides, mulled wine and traditional crafts among many other gifts. WeinachtsZauber at the Gendarmenmarkt is another toinstitution of Berlin Christmas markets and can be found in the cultural district housing the Konzerthaus and cathedrals. Späth’sche Baumschule Christmas, dateing back from the 18th century, is particularly great for kids.

Dusseldorf

Christmas music, handcrafts and loads of fun for children – Cologne’s magnificent Christmas world is more than just a market. It comprises seven different themed markets all of which are within walking distance of each other. Other attractions are also available during the advent season such as the Dome of Lights on Königsallee, the ice rink on Corneliusplatz or the Big Wheel on Burgplatz all decked out in festive lights.
